Designing and developing a website sounds like a chore. But actually, it can be really fun if you do it properly. A lot of time, while developing a website people forget to focus on some basic rules that need to be followed in order to achieve that perfect result. Developing a website is not just about selecting a good design and putting some content on it and simply going online. It requires more effort than that. It requires a proper plan and the perfect execution of that plan which can give you a website which is not only good for its design but also very much functional in its working.
1) Have a Plan
When you are working on a website, don’t just start designing it. To make sure that your design and your content works, you first need to create a strong plan. You need to create a step by step strategy that is practical and realistic in its approach. Having goals is good, but creating unrealistic goals will only create problems later at the time of development.
2) Remove the Unnecessary
Often there are certain elements on a website that feel important but in reality, they just occupy space and create a hassle. It could be either some content that is too long, or some animation that is complicated, or stocky website images. Your audience has an attention span of only 8 seconds. You should manage to catch their attention and make an impression at that time or else they will just move onto some other website.
3) Social Share and Follow
Producing good content will only go to some level. It will stop impressing the audience if they can’t share it on other platforms. On your website, you need to allow your audience the freedom to follow the content and share it on other social media platforms to get your brand and website recognized and make an impression.
Just creating a website is not enough. You need to create a certain path or a map for your visitors to follow using which they can see all the aspects of the website; otherwise, they will be lost. Calls-to-action button is something that gives the user a direction and guides them to the next page which they should be visiting.
5) SEO Strategy
Creating a website and being found are two very different things. In order to be found out there, you need to work on search engine optimization. You need to create SEO strategies that will allow your website to be seen and increase its visibility to the users.
Navigating a website is an important part because there is nothing more off-putting than a disorganized or confusing website. It is important to make sure that your visitors easily find what they are looking for, that’s how the right navigation helps you.
7) Mobile Optimization
Never ever forget about optimizing your website for the mobile, this is something you must always remember. Almost 80% of internet users are on their mobile phones. If they can’t access a simple website on their Smartphone they will simply give it up and move on to something else. Tailor your website according to mobile and make sure it works easily on the mobile platform.
White space is an essential thing for a website, don’t be afraid of it. White space is the extra space on your page. It might look superfluous to some, but actually, white space is a good way to improve readability and content prioritization. It plays a key role at the designing stage and while arranging website design elements.
9) Creating New Content
Creating content that is unique and fresh is a constant need when you have a website. You can’t offer the same old thing to your audience or they will easily get bored. Always give out content that feels fresh and unique and makes the user feel as if they are seeing it for the first time.
10) Do Not Stop Testing
Never stop testing your website, even after months or years of creating it. Make sure it runs perfectly and is in the perfect condition and doesn’t lag. This kind of follow up is extremely important. A website is not just a one-time thing. It has to be kept under supervision.
Creating a website is a task, but it’s a fun task if you do it the right way. So always make sure that your website has the right design and creative content. Along with that, you need to make sure it follows an SEO strategy, is optimized for mobile and is in perfect working condition.
